💫🙌 Since 2021, NDF has been co-financing the wetlands restoration project in Kigali, alongside World Bank and Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA)! 🏞️ The proposed NDF financing aims to support the city of Kigali strengthen climate resilience by restoring urban wetlands and reducing flood risks for its communities. Among others, this project will: 🔹 Expand wetland rehabilitation for multiple ecosystem services; 🔹 Reduce social and economic losses due to floods; 🔹 Improve water quality. “In Rwanda, wetlands, as critical ecological assets, are vital for biodiversity, livelihoods, and the economy. They also absorb carbon dioxide, aiding climate change mitigation. Restoring wetlands, including green planting, lowers urban temperatures and helps people adapt to climate change.
