Project period: 2013-2018
Partner agency: Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) / Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF)

Objectives

The general objective of PROADAPT is to increase the climate resilience of micro, small and medium-sized (MSME) companies and the local communities in which they operate, while also looking for new business opportunities for MSMEs in the region. The project will develop practical business models and tools to help MSMEs and their framework institutions anticipate and prepare for climate-related threats to their assets, value chains and local communities, to become more climate-resilient, and to exploit business opportunities in specific sectors. A number of pilot projects will be implemented to demonstrate the climate resilience and business opportunities. A substantial part of the pilot projects will focus on women-owned or managed MSMEs. An important part of the work is knowledge management and dissemination in the whole Latin American region and experiences will be shared with other regions.

PROADAPT will have four main components: 1) Development of Climate Adaptation Actions Plans; 2) Development of business models for building climate resilience; 3) Pilot projects for MSME climate resilience and related business opportunities; 4) Knowledge management and dissemination.

IDB/MIF will be the executing agency and NDF’s partner in the proposed project, and NDF’s funding will be channelled through IDB/MIF as joint co-financing.

Financing

Total cost of the project will be EUR 8.75 million, of which NDF will provide EUR 3.50 million, IDB EUR 3.70 million and local financing EUR 1.55 million.
