WB and NDF strengthen climate change efforts in Africa
World Bank and NDF discuss new climate change initiatives
A delegation from NDF visited the World Bank (WB) in Washington DC on 19-20 November 2014. The purpose of the visit was to review the existing cooperation initiatives and discuss possible new opportunities for co-financing.
Recently approved joint World Bank and NDF support includes a project to introduce innovative climate-smart provision of drinking water and energy in remote villages in Tanzania. Two other initiatives will be regional efforts addressing climate financing readiness in Africa and building capacity on the impacts of climate change on the health sector. At present, NDF’s portfolio of climate change projects with the WB consists of 24 projects to a total volume of EUR 58.2 million.
During the visit to Washington the NDF delegation held meetings with the World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, International Finance Cooperation (IFC), and other institutions. NDF also participated in a two-day workshop on "Effective Screening and Management of Climate and Disaster Risks” with other development agencies and multilateral development banks.
